Yesterday 4yo decided to count out loud to 1000. She did it conscientiously and correctly, and it took a little under an hour. At present she’s counting out loud using an invented numbering system that I can’t quite figure out. She’s currently on “thirty twenty two”.

@mbateman I had a job making widgets once and I had spare attention while assembling the pieces, which I had to count, so I decided to play around with counting in different bases tried 2,3,4,5,6,12,16, & had special words to ensure each sound meant exactly one quantity (eg 10₂ = "two")
