one of the things i didn't realise is "expression doesn't come from free" if i really want to jam, i have to spend hundreds of hours learning to play piano, until the notes i want? my hands can just play them https://t.co/lJUeEWpfXK

i used to be annoyed by this. i should just be able to express, *now*, shouldn't it? but for artists, expression has never come for free serious artists have always known this. sourcing pigment. refining your voice, so you can make the sounds you want

there's this message from therapy, eat pray love spaces all you need to do is express. it should be free. nothing to do and i see where they're coming from, but the more serious i become about art, and expression, the more seriously i see the ways in which that's not wholly true

it takes effort to put our hands into the world, and make things. i see this with my preschoolers all the time. cutting paper, does not come for free. moulding sand into shapes, does not come for free. they fight for the right to mould the world as they see fit every day https://t.co/QGAT4a6bo6

the world of embodiment is not some magic STEM land where if you think something, it can be; it takes genuine interaction with the world, and this requires genuine coordination and this is kind of glorious https://t.co/vwkG27E0ER
