@balajis I don't love the mixing of desktop and mobile OS's. Feels like apples and oranges

@chr1sa I understand but disagree. Developers and users explicitly decide every day whether to use an app on Windows, Android, or iOS.

@balajis I mean, I’m sure personal devices did also shift. Less home pc’s and more mobile phones, an area Microsoft couldn’t tap into. I wonder what Microsoft looks like an in a professional device /os scenario

@balajis A bit weird to cram in all mobile phones in the vertical axis. The sum of devices measured in that graph probably grew rapidly

@balajis That's going to be a radically different chart when all of compute is AI. Many of these will be stripped down versions of their previous incarnations.

@balajis These stats feel a bit disingenuous given the fact that mobile OSs are being coupled with Desktop OSs and largely serve different use cases.

@balajis They don't disclose but my guess is android accounts for more than 50% of google revenue. "Open source" in exchange for data and tentacles into all apps.

@balajis Wtf is this chart? Are Windows 3.x and Windows NT are meant to represent all versions of Windows? What? Why is MSDOS and Windows 3.x lumped together? Why is it using dithered dot patterns when there are still tons of colors available?

@balajis Doesn't make sense to mix everything (PC, mobiles). Also, Windows was "dominant" for a reason. Those who know know.

@balajis I’m not sure I would call BASIC an operating system. Even when I had a commodore64 with only BASIC, that was the programming language, not the OS, no?
