could just build a nuclear plant

4,200 Joshua trees are scheduled to be removed are replaced by solar panels for the Aratina Solar Project near Boron, CA in June of this year. They will not be salvaged but funds based on the size of the tree will be placed in a mitigation bank. https://t.co/1BhA3uag4F

@eigenrobot But then you'd have to fight the environmental lobby truth and nail. Turns out they actually hate any solution that works.

@eigenrobot Yes, but that would actually result in *more* reliable power generation, and that's not what progressives want.

@eigenrobot At this point the only hope for a natural nuclear reactor to spontaneously emerge like at Oklo.

@eigenrobot And irrigate the Joshua trees with the nuclear waste water, to get carbon sequestering monsters? Pure genius I would've expected no less

@eigenrobot There are at least 4 million of these trees in CA. Also solar costs have dropped like a rock over the past decade, even if nuclear was deregulated solar would still be very competitive imo, so this is reasonable, it's a desert lol

@eigenrobot Maybe I'd prefer a nuclear plant but there are a lot of Joshua trees.

@eigenrobot hundreds of square miles of solar is damage to the environment, we forget much less damage (and less permanent) than carbon emission + oil + gas mining. but still something

@eigenrobot I'm intrigued about using solar in fully desertified areas to partially shade the soil and decrease temperatures / evaporation as part of re-vegetation

@eigenrobot Yes, they could also just put fewer solar panels leaving gaps around the trees That is literally the joy of solar, you can adapt it to where you want to put it and make it the size you want

@eigenrobot I've been to Boron. This is about the only thing that could make that land uglier. But they do have a lot of sun. Way more than what they need.
