so many adults never get beyond kid-level of Theory of Mind (other people know different things than me) ...to more advanced stages like: - other people think different things than me - no actually other people ACTUALLY think those things

the default theory of mind is, implicitly, "what motivations would cause someone like me to say and do what i think i'm seeing and hearing" much confusion is caused by failures to appreciate both differences of personality & culture, and the significance of omitted context
