the default theory of mind is, implicitly, "what motivations would cause someone like me to say and do what i think i'm seeing and hearing" much confusion is caused by failures to appreciate both differences of personality & culture, and the significance of omitted context

given the default theory of mind one could wonder about the character of someone prone to imputing malign intent to the actions of others, doubly so if they're also eager to treat those others harshly

so many adults never get beyond kid-level of Theory of Mind (other people know different things than me) ...to more advanced stages like: - other people think different things than me - no actually other people ACTUALLY think those things
