> Why? Starting with the strictly false: your brain doesn’t feel sparkly. You, the conscious embodied whole organism, might feel something like sparkly (though I must confess to never having felt this way myself). The notion of your brain feeling something is straightforwardly… https://t.co/FBx0sJ92F9

In general pop neuroscience utterly fails to explain its explananda, and deploying pop neuroscience to 4 year olds makes this comically obvious and for good measure commits a few extra epistemic crimes along the way

Going to bed but in case this does numbers, I am probably a uniquely good follow if the admixture of explanatory antireductionism and parenting small children is of great interest to you

Engagement on this is such that there’s a decent chance it gets back to the Lovevery people who made it. If so: * I largely like your kits and books and appreciate the work and aesthetic judgment that goes into them. * I hope you can abstract away from the valence of social media to at least ponder the substance of why many people are responding to this negatively, whether or not you ultimately agree with the critiques. * I regard neurobabble as a big attractor in the present memespace that is easy to fall into; this book was just a convenient outlet for my longstanding and semi-professional frustration with that attractor. * I stand by what I said but I do apologize for framing it rather meanly.

Lovevery, the company that authored this book, graciously reached out to let me know that they are doing a rewrite based on this gratuitously meanly delivered feedback, so I will now be dismounting from my high horse https://t.co/KquxEx3PHm
