ive been reflecting on the “right to be” - my sense/experience is that in the culture here (whatever here means), people dont have the right to exist. you dont have the right to simply be, you have to justify and earn your existence, you have to be producing something of value

you need to wave your accolades in front of someone just to earn their attention just to be seen. it feels like it permeates every interaction, this background burden of needing to justify existence. which isn’t the case in much of the world.

where i used to relate to this with resentment, i now mostly feel sadness, a desire to grab people and shake them and say “you have a right to exist you dont have to justify yourself to me or anyone”
