starting a slowthread of musings on animism, somatics, and AI three disparate fields that totally interconnect: animism for right relationship between human & nonhuman intelligences; somatics for bodied vs. disembodied intelligences https://t.co/fZxNZ1QhbV

The question is not “how do we hand-edit the weights to get this AI to share our values” but rather “what would it actually mean for an AI to want to understand us and care about us and our values, to act because it actually feels that sense of shared sapient-being-ness?”

imo animists will adapt easily to AI - we’re already used to living among swirling nonhuman intelligences & forces, some more powerful than us. birds, mountains, oceans, deities, etc people who experience “humans are the only existing intelligence” will have more of a reckoning

"The initiatory traditions might ask, why would we even consider granting access to world altering technologies to those who haven't even apprenticed with the the oldest technology of all - fire? Fire, the first technology. Fire, the heat and the light. What does fire know?

the level of “in tune with the universe” it’s possible to live is very, very high indigenous cultures had sense capacities we have forgotten and imo would do us well to reawaken, they seemed naturally regulatory and sustainable https://t.co/AW2OFtQ89Z

'My people today recognize and experience in this quietness the great life-giving spirit, the father of us all. Our culture has taught us to be still and to wait. We don't try to hurry things up. We let them follow their natural course, like the seasons.'

I’m considering hosting a “nonhuman intelligences study group” which is 1/2 about learning what AI is up to, and 1/2 about connecting with plant intelligence (or animal intelligence, or spirit intelligence - it could rotate) what AI/ML topics would y’all want covered?

“The world is alive, intelligent, aware, communicative, and filled with soul. The dead, mechanical world we have been taught about in school does not exist and never has.” - wow there’s a book called Plant Intelligence and the Imaginal Realm. and I think I need to read it https://t.co/AjZsWc2sIi
