there is something off about white people taking degree programs where they study black people https://t.co/eD2fyG2PTr

im struggling for a theory of this but i dont have one other than its just transgressive in a really uncomfortable way. this is one of those boundaries that youre supposed to wordlessly recognize and respect, and if you dont it usually means something is wrong with you

its not that men CANT learn about gynecology or become capable gynecologists, or that there's anything intrinsically wrong with that but its something that will make many other people in that space very uncomfortable https://t.co/uZRBvYSm3t

this leads to a selection effect where people pursuing such interests tend to be (1) completely oblivious of the extent to which they're making others uncomfortable, or (2) specifically enjoy making others uncomfortable this selection is reinforced by bayesian feedback loops

the speed at which this information cascade can occur is pretty breathtaking reportedly >80% of gynecologists today are women reportedly, fifty years ago, it was 7% https://t.co/AheEr9dAsq
