"in this ancient meditation practice..." y'all i am all about the lindy, much respect for the old ways, but we need to put it in context: minds and bodies were shaped by very different forces way back when, and what worked then might not work as well now, we might need new ways

back then nearly everyone was an agricultural laborer, and didn't even have access to books let alone screens, and anyway couldn't read, and learning to read is known to create profound mental changes, e.g. memorizers of the ramayana started to forget as soon as they could read

they say yoga is mostly a 20th c invention, originally it was just a few stretches for guys who meditated all day, & of course! back in the day only a crazy mystic would sit still so long and now it's likely your job! "ancient wisdom" is to sell it bc we don't trust modernity
