mildly curious thing about coming back to university as a graduate student: i feel friends with the students, with teachers, with the admins and employees equally before i don't think i really noticed the employees. they weren't people to me, relevant people

teachers felt behind a barrier of teachers than friends it was an appropriate barrier at the time, but it's just a lot less so now. they're potential collaborators, friends, dinner partners, maybe teachers

i think this has less to do with being a graduate student and probably more just noticing everyone and everything i had such tunnel vision before. there was only the ladder, pipeline, success, impact, whatever fun you could have along the way

but as a silicon valley-brained person, regular people weren't people to me they were users, customers, QALYs and lives to save, but not people
