agency discourse got me feeling some type of way. people talked about agency a lot in the rationality community and in retrospect i think it was poisoned with a kind of double bind the whole time. "you should cultivate agency so that you can do what *we* want"
same as the double bind that poisoned CFAR from the start. "you should become more rational so that you think the thoughts *we* want" everyone pretended this wasn't what was happening but it just obviously was https://t.co/q9xo8eHT0l
but it was all a lie, that was never the point. the point was always to skim off a handful of people to work on AI safety. "rationality for its own sake" was a comforting delusion we wrapped ourselves in so we didn't spook people too early about the DOOMSDAY CULT
