hippies & woo people or whoever talk about “high frequency vibrations” being good and “low vibrations” being bad, & as far as i can tell it’s 100% semantic association with high=virtuous & low=depraved for me high frequency vibrations correspond to things like anxiety & tinnitus

low frequency vibrations correspond to things like heartbeats, the breath, the tides, the seasons, and horizons of time that reach out toward eternity whoever is talking about “high vibrations” being the vibrations of love has not considered basic physics

i guess it never occurred to me that the people using this language might actually be speaking entirely in metaphor and are not actually talking about vibrations at all. like by “high vibrations” they just mean “good energy” or something i always interpret it in a physical sense

some of these comments support my hypothesis that they are simply synonyms for good and bad https://t.co/QULmtk67Ve

on the other hand, many people are pushing the incoherent physical metaphor side https://t.co/RW2qQZyAst

as a person who’s done a lot of self-transformative work, it is clear that the more at peace i become, the less, & more slowly, i vibrate (literally) when someone is “uptight”, they are literally tight (muscle tension) and they are literally vibrating more quickly (higher freq)

from my point of view the language is exactly backwards thank you for coming to my ted talk

@moonboi_ also uhhhh nah man if you wanna use the orchestra metaphor, high vibration just means fucking piccolos https://t.co/NHCFCsgLGA

@moonboi_ speaking in "metaphor" but badly. they've attached the metaphor adjective to the wrong metaphor noun, so it's senseless

@moonboi_ Yes the frequency is not the valence carrier per se. It's the harmony. But frequency can be used for annealing, which has valence effects down the line.

@moonboi_ I've thought of it at times like the frequency of perception, the quickness and aliveness of mindfulness. it's not a primary frame or language for me though

@moonboi_ In one sense they're talking about the phenomenology of brain waves, higher frequency is smoother, more flowy, more mystical. Even higher frequency than is typically shown, HFOs up to 500Hz are known, and may be stimulated by psychedelics and near death experiences https://t.co/vNgEFg7m5y

@moonboi_ i think these people have significantly flattened the resonance model into [frequency = valence] a better (but still flat) heuristic would be [coherence = valence] this way you can mix high/low frequencies as long as they interleave with low-integer divisibility

@moonboi_ a simpler way of saying this: “good energy” is compatible with living systems and interoperates with them smoothly. “bad energy” is out of sync with them and disrupts their functioning. so coherence isn’t a fixed type or amount of energy, but an interrelationship between vibes

also wanna clarify: a person vibing high doesn't necessarily means anxiety or tenseness. that's just vibrations holding tension awkwardly. high vibrations can be some of the smoothest, think a V8 or V12 over a 2-cylinder
