advice i would give my family on venturing into poasting (a draft): https://t.co/NFrDCRXJcv

you will likely not start out making stuff that’s up to your standards. let yourself be where you are, rather than putting all ur effort into making one perfect thing; make what is easy, make a small version, take little steps and poast as u go

poastpoastpoast. go for volume. make 100 poasts. pay attention to steps of the process that cause a lot of friction, and try discarding them altogether. figure out the easiest way to get out of ur own way of poasting more

but also, don’t feel pressured to post at a regular frequency. not only focus on *what* u wanna post, focus on *when* u wanna post. it can be something u return to whenever u feel like and not a moment before

be clear on *why* u wanna post. is it self-expression? a creative outlet? sharing your knowledge w others? helping other ppl? having fun? working towards a side income? the latter works better as a secondary goal or else u risk burning out and building resentment

it’s fine and good to experiment. u don’t have to find ur voice right away. it can help to make stuff that fits a certain genre or niche ur familiar w then slowly add ur personal touch, or u can simply post chaos/nonsense and let it develop from there

one of the biggest obstacles will be breaking thru ur own judgment of urself. this is normal and is in fact one of the reasons this is worth doing. u get to be urself loud and proud, to everyone, *including* urself

similarly, social media is for everyone! u don’t have to be any certain way. u don’t have to be a classic “content creator.” u don’t have to let it change ur life in bad ways, u can choose to focus on the ways it can change ur life in good ways

getting zero views/engagement is not a failure, even if it feels like one. for one, it lets u be prepared for future opportunities and works as proof of ur skills and ur gumption. want to book comedy gigs? post ur comedy work. now ppl can see what they’d be booking

getting zero views in the beginning is also a reason to start with small stuff; it would prob feel way more demoralizing to get zero views on something u work super super hard on. if that’s the case u can wait til u’ve got ur sea legs to post stuff ur more proud of

accept and embrace what feels easy/good vs uneasy/hard. if u don’t like talking on camera, don’t!!! write, or make talking-less videos. if u like to talk on camera, maybe choose tiktok or youtube. once u get comfortable u can stretch this and try new things, but u don’t have to

if u wanna niche down (u don’t have to right away, or ever, who cares, just have fun and poast what u want), then combine a couple things u love and are good at. comedy + birdwatching is one possible example https://t.co/uRDc1wdyqT

u can also simply share how u experience life!!! https://t.co/wU4MLg0j9B

one thing i think is sooooo silly and funny and cute and wholesome is that we can help each other sooo much just by talking about how we experience the world. like just humans helping other humans by talking about how they human. i love it!!!!!!

different ppl have different tolerance for having their personal info + experiences shared, so it’s easiest to focus heavily on yourself rather than talking about other ppl (unless u get their consent first)

alternatively it may be necessary to decide as a family what kinds of things we are comfortable posting and what we are not https://t.co/wrS3kMGm59

digital footprint and whatnot, yea, but also, don’t let that scare u too much u don’t post at all. millions of ppl have figured out how to navigate it, u can too. just make choices that protect what’s important to u to protect https://t.co/5xIowkpFi1

imo the best attitude to cultivate is this 👇🏻 may not be true right away, but work incrementally towards making it true. this can be a combo of accepting where ur at and noticing small ways u can work towards where ur going https://t.co/caamf882ul
