people really don't get how sincere the AI existential risk people are. lots of looking for ulterior motives. i promise you all the ones i've personally met and talked to literally believe what they are literally saying and are sincerely trying to prevent everyone from dying
@QiaochuYuan yeah you can tell bc there's not much money to be made from that particular grift (yet). lotta AI x-risk hardliners are paying a social and monetary cost i wonder if/when their numbers will swell enough to support a significant grift economy & what that grift would look like
i talk shit about the rationalists but this is one of those i'll shit talk my brother but you can't situations - the rationality / EA / x-risk communities have a dense concentration of some of the most thoughtful + principled people i've ever met, it's part of what drew me there
@QiaochuYuan @ESYudkowsky it's funny how many replies here are "no actually it's my pet cause that's an existential risk" with zero sincerity or rigor. people can be so politics-brained they actually couldn't recognize sincerity and rigor if they slapped them in the face
