This is why so many people in TPOT are from AI/tech/math. Staring into the abyss, the infinity, especially infinite reward/hell transforms you. It either breaks you, or it makes you transcend yourself. Not much different from religion, god is also infinite https://t.co/WCTIj4WfAI

it's something much more subtle and harder to point to in the atmosphere. the sense that there are Stakes, that things Desperately Matter, that something Very Important needs to be Figured Out Immediately or else [INFINITE BAD, LITERALLY THE WORST POSSIBLE THING]

definitely my case here. I'm wondering what antidote saved me from breaking. Impermanence insight helped a lot - everything will end at some point, even infinitely good and infinitely bad things. But that alone was not sufficient. What was it then?

I'd say balance. Sounds very vague, but I think it's the core. Of course it's so hard to keep balance. I was also glued to twitter over the weekend, definitely out of balance. But I think once you're balance-pilled, infinities just loose the power over you. It's just not The Way.

The intellectual case for balance and against single-thing-maxxing is that the world is full of power-laws. If you can get 80% of the thing for 20% effort, it rarely makes sense to go further. Better look for other opportunities with such leverage. That's what I'd call balance.

But I'm afraid pure intellect will not take you there. You'd be just opportunity-maxxing.
