i dont know who needs to hear this but the inner core of your "personality" is the series of tricks you used to get your parents' attention when you were two, which is to say your first survival mechanism, which was so load-bearing you never were able to abandon it and instead you have only lacquered it with layer upon layer of accretion until you imagine it is something else entirely, but no beneath a thousand coats your most interior shape can still be glimpsed

this was actually sort of a reflection on parenting i was noticing at dinner about how a lot of the time my daughter is just running _continuous_ experiments on how to get attention of different flavors. practicing hard she's astonishingly manipulative https://t.co/OkQPaPtT4P

and of course she is right? if a parent doesnt pay attention to a child they can literally die so this is a matter of some importance to her life

so all of this in mind and understanding my own role as an object being studied and manipulated I'm trying to encourage and reward playful, performative theater as a means of getting attention or specific outcomes and also to discourage the HORRID WHINING, which is there

my basic objective is for her needs to be met and ideally for her to enjoy each interaction to the maximum extent and also for me to enjoy the interaction we should be having FUN together this seems like a good way of coming to interact with the world if one wants a joyful life

a secondary goal is to mould her into a diplomatic weapon which I believe will serve her well in her later life

this is a bit of a personal "joke" in total war: medieval 2 christian factions could get Princess units they were diplomat agents who could also marry off one level in their diplomatic attribute tree was "diplomatic weapon" Always Be Playing Map Games https://t.co/gGy9lBFJJs https://t.co/Fb63bpujpF

Fun and illuminating bit about how young children are natural salespeople - until we teach them to get inside their own heads and get in their own way https://t.co/khEezK04Ct
