one of the strangest things about the bay area was the incessant need to do this to everything everywhere https://t.co/0ga89vpOrt

it felt like the distance masked a deeply non-reciprocal relationship, because it was too urgent to make things and changes big, quick even when the “thing” was oneself, and right here, they’d talk about themselves like they were far away

strange place, this https://t.co/eAxAHvwKw3

@AskYatharth "colonizer" is such a funny term because it only has negative connotations to lefties who use it a slur, not the people who are usually the targets of it like hell yeah my people colonized Canaan we'll colonize Mars and I'll colonize your mom's bed this ain't a slur to me :)

@yashkaf honestly, i rarely think about the negative political american connotation when i think colonise, i think first of plants: an invasive species coming in, and dominating, and making things more homogenous than they were it’s a very neutral, descriptive term to me

@yashkaf i generally don’t like when it happen, and i take care of shield ecosystems i like from such forces but the term itself is just descriptive. there really is a thing to describe as “coloniser mindset”, a kind of rooting in land vs only in resource acquisition, i identify with it

@yashkaf the word being a “slur” kind of makes it lose its semantic meaning to me it just becomes a “you lose, shut up” word if you’re left-sympathetic or a “this person is a wuss, don’t trust anything he says” if the listener is right-sympathetic
