the hippies attempted a “back to the land” sustainable degrowth movement, in the 60s and 70s, with better music, with 50 years to change the trajectory, with drugs. they couldn’t keep it up. “it sucked!” said stewart brand. now we have less time, more people. we need technology, not just a change in mindset. the timeframe is much much more urgent
