ok, one final poll. There is a room-sized blender that kills everyone who steps into it. But, if 50% or more of the people answering this poll step into the blender, there will be too much resistance and it will fail to start and everyone who steps in will be fine. Obviously, if you don't step into the blender nothing bad can happen. Do you step into the blender?

Tonight we blend! https://t.co/cLY8TTUGZ5

3 hours left! https://t.co/cUR269kBzk

People who voted "yes" do you have any regrets here? If this was real, what would you be thinking as the blades started spinning? https://t.co/svPmDuFYWZ

@RokoMijic This is exactly my whole argument for the limits of rationality and individualism. βIrrationalβ things like nationalism and religion are the equivalent of stepping into the blender. And stepping into the blender is a pre requisite for civilization.

@RokoMijic Roko, I get you don't understand how human beings think, but to think that's a problem with the human beings and not with you is where you step off the reservation. Since you're a rationalist, it's probably worth correcting it don't you think?

@RokoMijic I would rather be blended to death gloriously, surrounded by the best of humanity, than to live in a society where prosocial voluntary sacrifice is not the default. And we are all descended from those who squared their shoulders and walked straight into the blender.

@RokoMijic Roko β if it was phrased this way, no one would click blue ever. But since itβs not phrased this way, people will. Thatβs just an empirical fact, right? So in this case, the answer depends on the phrasing of the question.

@RokoMijic Itβs like the classic Econ βguess 2/3rd of everyone elseβs guesses between 1-100β group game. If you play with a crowd of normal humans, the way to win is to guess like 22. You can say it βshouldβ be 0, but in reality if you guess 0 you will lose.

@RokoMijic > Obviously, if you don't step into the blender nothing bad can happen. nah man, the problem is you said "50% or more of the people answering this poll", not "100 people" or something. the bad thing that happens is that it increases the strength of the blender to click "No!"

@RokoMijic Perhaps a true altruistic liberal democracy is the friends we made along the blend. https://t.co/oLvjFgY8yh
