My son 🙋🏽‍♂️was SO cute today, he asked me "dad are clouds candy?" 😍 I told him they were water. 💦 Then he asked "dad, what's Earth's defense system?" and then I remembered I don't have a son and he asked again his eyes now obsidian black "what is the defense system father"

also released in 2002 was Eminem's Sing For The Moment, which has totally different vibes, and is still one of the densest, high-octane, honest things ever written about fame – in the ballpark of Shakespeare IMO https://t.co/FwxVhhzM9i

My favorite essay of all time was written in 2011, and pretty much predicted the inevitability of today's culture wars (because it happened throughout history over and over again with the advent of each new piece of new media tech) https://t.co/iAmVULAp7Z https://t.co/m7qBdier6V

if you like my taste in writing, there’s a good chance you’d also like my writing! I’d describe this one as a self-help book for people allergic to self-help books, particularly for people with a nerdy-literary bent (lots of LotR and Moana references, Campbell, Jung, etc)

@visakanv 20 years ago when I "broadband" just came out I had 2mbit adsl. But because of a snail that had fried itself between the wires in the telecom-box I for some reason had 8mbit. After 2 years of superfast 8mbit I got a call saying they had removed the snail...2 mbit.. true story

@visakanv We are like ants crawling on a PC motherboard. Everything seems alien, we don’t truly understand how little we understand. We think humans are the most intelligent species in the universe but we don’t actually know anything of significance in the big pictures of the cosmos

A few things... 🤔 - The animal was designed (by who?), with every part serving a specific purpose, but everything else just happened for no reason? 🫀🫁 - For the animal to experience anything, several systems needs to be in place, including complex sensory organs beyond human comprehension (and technology). The organs themselves are built by a mind-boggling orchestra of biological, machine precision over some period of time. These organs did not develop on their own, it took (a network of) genetic nano-factories to build them in logical/sensible order, with cell specialization. Or do you think these highly purposeful systems just exist and build for no reason, and come to exist on their own? 🧠 - Pain is the body [system] telling you something is wrong or needs attention. It exists, at least in part, to help the animal continue existing and avoid that which is dangerous to its survival. Why do there exist prior systems, that humans did not build or design, that help organisms continue to exist, unless they were meant to? 🤖 It doesn't matter how you look at it, there are too many contradictions between the claim or belief that things ultimately happen for no reason and... well, literally all of reality. Some things are difficult to understand, but even now we're looking at that image and contemplating, and that animal's death is serving a purpose.

@visakanv This is a good example that demonstrates that people overestimate the level of comprehension required for tasks - or in this case... to not die. I would be surprised if a mouse couldn't be trained to recognize exposed wires. It doesn't have to understand Maxwell's equations lol

@visakanv Sometimes i think we forget our own mortality all to easy, even if we're consuming dead parts of other creatures daily. I think.about the oceangate deaths a lot cause they died without even knowing they've died.

Humanity *is* actually different from this, in that we keep building systems which instantly elevate individuals to 100x or 1000x levels of power and puissance, and all the other rats around him build cathedrals around the circuit box or power system which zapped him with godhood, and priest/influencer rats write books and devise rituals about how any other rat and also get electrified if only they did X Y Z and buy the self-help book.
