I feel awkward talking about the “spiritual path” around spiritual folks because I feel like my views are fairly controversial… which is that IME so far it’s a red herring

Had a dinner conversation that was oriented around an “ascending” path towards transcendence and a “descending” one into the body, where both eventually lead to oneness

On some level, it just doesn’t make sense if I stop to think about it that the way to experiencing oneness is to go be alone in meditation or in my body

If I have to go be alone to experience oneness… It seems like I’m missing the point, or not actually able to integrate the feeling into “real life”

Where breaking out of routine to find a new way is a critical early step, but wanting to stay there and never find integration doesn’t resonate with me

It seems obvious to me that oneness would be best cultivated with others and finding the oneness there, AKA relationally

I say this having done at least a bit of meditation (vipassana retreat) and having had transcendent moments on psychedelics (like “holy shit I’m one with everything”)

Ultimately I think it might come down to the work I’ve done with my mom leading to far more impactful shifts in me in how I relate to others than a bunch of meditation

@justavagrant_ transcendence is great and everything, but have you tried accomplishing your childhood dreams? have you tried developing good explanations for mysterious phenomenon (like why a flower grows?), rather than just marveling at its beauty? have you tried building a family?

@justavagrant_ but yea, i don't judge anyone who is on the path, so long as they don't reify the path as "extra special" the "my thing is more special than your thing" vibe is annoying, no matter who it's coming from.
