saying the quiet part out loud — rw want to ban puberty blockers so that trans people struggle to pass. i say, fuck that https://t.co/hzpkFtOUhA

re: “who is forcing puberty” people (republicans) are working to remove gender affirming care for minors (and adults), removing puberty blockers and hormone therapy as options. trans people say this is cruel and ignorant, and get harassed when they do! been called everything from insane to a groomer just trying to speak about this

calls for violence, let’s see if a report works https://t.co/ZgDFtRuWLJ

trans kid in texas: able to get blockers, to wait until 18 to start hormones legislature: no. and by the way, your doctor is a criminal. now the kid is forced through the wrong puverty, doesn’t have hormones, and is permanently, irreversibly harmed from loving the life they want to live. do you not see the problem, or do you deny its validity

re: transmen giving birth carrying a child, a personal decision, is separate from one’s gender identity. you can be a dad to a child even if you carried it as a baby. you will carry the child for 9 months, you’ll be their parent your whole life. it’s not that complicated. re: blockers are partially irreversible if you *are* trans it’s the least worst option if you don’t have access to hormones. irreversibility is basically minimal, and resumes, mostly, once you start hrt (or natural puberty) it is monitored, people are careful, 15% temporary drops in bone density is a least worst option to let someone live the life they need to live. discrimination against trans has gone from awful to better but still bad, and understand about it has grown. so the proportion of people who are trans who transition instead of repressing (or, suicide, or, trying to convert? like that often works) increases. Recently, discrimination has gotten bad again, because of culture war horseshit, but that’s not going to put many back in the closet.

fuck off to this one especially https://t.co/EJGQDdNZ4Y

re: how is consent for puberty blockers not like consent for statutory rape 😐 https://t.co/dhUFfEv6BP

we have statutory rape laws because in the vast majority of cases, a minor in some sex thing w older people is in some kind of fucked up power relationship — that isn’t their idea. with trans: - the person transitioning is driving it - there are standards of care that require approval and monitoring from parents and professionals, over time - the kids are not in a coercive relationship where they’re being forced to do anything - the adults around it aren’r getting anything out of it, except for, hopefully, their child is happy 🤷🏻♀️

re: why should anyone care about passability, don’t i value choice, health, being able to have kids (yes) https://t.co/7aNne5uo7N

i value as you say - the child’s rights to grow up and have the options to either transition or not - to have kids or not - and to have a healthy life or not all of this is possible. kids on blockers can choose any time to not proceed. they can hormonally transition when they come of age or get approval elsewhere. they can have kids, they may literally have to go through a short period of puberty, but they can avoid most of the irreversible changes. some do. sperm, eggs, can be saved. they can have a healthy life. the vast majority do!! passability is not a nice to have. it is very important to many people. it protects you from discrimination. it aligns your inner and outer expression. it makes it easier and more possible to find a relationship. it’s not something trivial. it’s a matter of life.

re: “what about the regrets of the detransitioners” https://t.co/LKCFaawpnE

after all of the gatekeeping, what about the regrets of the like 1% of trans ppl who detransition, most of whom do so not because they’re not trans (anymore?) but rather they are trans and suffered discrimination and it was too hard (in many cases because of their body changes from puberty) well, they had a lot of chances to stop. and for many, if not all of the changes, they can get back to what they want. i don’t advocate for early surgeries, and i don’t think people should rush. and few do! the mild to major regrets of a tiny proportion of people who transition, ~1%, cannot justify shutting doors on the 99% who would otherwise live happy lives, that banning legislation would fuck up

this is harassment… https://t.co/K1pzQAQVIC
