There is a recognition that has yet to occur among the majority of citizens in Western nations: We are at war. The consequent psychological switch then is to: 1. withdraw support for our governments, 2. grieve the loss of a society in which we can reasonably expect our representatives to competently and honestly do their job, and 3. create and demand solutions from anyone discussing issues such as the one below. We must shift the economics of effort in battles like these. Every bit of glucose spent on cognitive effort to persuade an opponent that does not care for truth, beauty, and goodness is wasted. I see too many of the good guys being held back by the longing for a peace that is no longer possible.
