Reading through https://t.co/ONsLlhirPw and he articulates my thoughts soooo much better than I can lol

Holy shit I don't think I've ever been that excited to read a blog. He hits this perfect note for me of : no bullshit writing, simple but effective and smooth prose, talks about the things that actually matter and most importantly : not condescending !

For future reference and as a reminder : I came across the blog because he's an upcoming guest in the Hermitix podcast (https://t.co/owxb8Mn1Zy). Really fantastic podcast that talks about super interesting topics regarding society, philosophy and being human in a strange time.

Some notes on 'The system and the Self' by Darren Allen (see at https://t.co/YyGCv5tCkM)

(2) Those machines require institutions to create said parts and maintain the machines : a chainsaw requires the raw materials, energy, manufactures of raw materials into parts, assembly, etc. Individuals can create saws but not chainsaws.

(4) But the interdependence of institutions is not like that of the body, where parts are synergistic and there is no tradeoff between individual and collective. Body parts do not try to override other parts but they also are distinct and strong.

(6) As a result, human minds are shaped by the institutions they need to serve, as this is the only way for those humans to make a contribution - you can only work at a corporate job if you can be obedient, do what you're told well enough, cooperate, etc.

The fact that people say "we need to adapt to technology" but that technology never adapts to US is quite clear that the technological society is in fact not human. If it was, the question that would keep coming up would be : does this help flourish human life ?

Mechanical states of mind create mechanical environments as well, and the opposite is true. For example, machines create the corporate world, where creativity, beauty, love and consciousness don't even make sense as concepts, and that environment creates mechanical people (...)
