Even though on the surface equanimity *looks* like the denial of pleasure and the acceptance of pain... In reality, equanimity is pleasure-maximizing and over time makes pain not a problem at all. Funny how things are sometimes the opposite of what they may seem. https://t.co/ILfGGwitDW



We have similar intuitions for equanimity :) I like the dissipative radiator metaphor, the parts that map well enhance understanding, and the parts that don't are good intuition pumps in how they don't map (my two signs of a good metaphor) Another for you in the "energy storage and dissipation" vein, a process called equalization you do to batteries to restore capacity and discharge across cells


In a developmental sense, in my experience the numbness and the equanimity can be confused for one another as their external presentations resemble each other, and in the numbness case you're not having sensations and therefore not noticing them get stuck and not cleared discerning between the two is the game
