there was a moment in my singing lesson where i “got” that when she was saying to move my head and sing at the same time, she wasn’t trying to get me to do those movements separately and then coordinate them so they looked seamless https://t.co/5maa9RBct4

it reminded me of the exact same moment a friend who was showing me yoga asked if it felt like was moving my arms, and moving my breath, and coordinating them to stop at the same time

i would often hear in @wholebodyprayer’s yoga class, “the movement is the breath” and how if the breath stops, the movement stops eventually, my friend said, the movement becomes the breath

the movement 𝘸𝘢𝘴 the voice the mind didn’t coordinate the actions; rather, there was a direct, mechanical link the movement pushed into the voice, or the voice led the movement; or perhaps a secret deep existential inhale opened both

i found even if i stopped my movement, my voice would going. more so, i found if i stopped my imagination, my movement would keep going

the link between my imagination and the movement was fiction, as was the link between my movement and breath. they were all secretly coordinated by a breathless mind

at first, the link between me and my swing dancing partner was fiction; if she took a step out of turn, i would not actually be responding to her, i would be responding to my preconceived notion of what to happen

something would change when i was here, and present, and not so hard on myself for getting it right, it was as if the connection mattered than the script, and we would fall, or go off script, laughing

3rd week of acting class: our instructor said we shouldn’t just memorise our lines in order. that was no way to be in connection with the other actors. our line was a response to their line. if they said a line out of order, our body should too
