variance in outcomes is such a trip like, even though the thoughtful consensus wisdom about most things (fitness, writing, etc) is pretty well-established, you can really see some people get much more bang for their buck than others

it’s tempting to write it off as “genetics” or “predisposition” but just as ancient nerds were obsessed with alchemy I am obsessed with the belief that there remains unspoken insight that’s embodied by some and not others

it’s (at least) some mix of personal inclination + psychology management + project management. As good as I am at what I do, I am always haunted by the observation that my engine sputters and soots and jams, and I can imagine the theoretical existence of one that doesn’t
