shame has a function. it has many functions. one of them is to STOP people from doing something. you STOP the kid from poking her sister’s eyes out. you STOP the kid from running out on the road, or doing sth inappropriate but in healthy shame, shame is always followed by repair

ideally, when shame happens, the parent comes over and helps soothe and reassure the child, so the /dynamic safety of existing in the world/ is maintained, while making clear the boundary

unhealthy shame is when for some reason, the shame sticks around. it’s internalised. it becomes about “oneself.” sinks deep into the psyche it doesn’t belong there.

shame is a state you enter and leave like any else. shame is how you discover the boundaries of the world (as set by other humans), but you return to your health, supported, exploring places healthy systems still want to explore https://t.co/dr8BURchxF

shame isn’t a problem; getting stuck there is it’s just a wave of emotion like any other https://t.co/qQosnJvLYW
