@ultimape Lmao that thread is complete nonsense. The per person energy usage is tiny for the most part. High energy usage is disproportionately stuff like HD video streaming. Google maps probably uses a few watts at most

@Paul_Melman IDK, running GPS+wifi location services on my phone with a map screen on during the day w/ high brightness to see the thing? It's pretty bad and one of the quickest ways to overheat it. Newer phones do better here.

@Paul_Melman I was never able to find out how much server-side electricity usage it takes to do google maps, tho I think you're right about that not mattering much.I would normally use the locally saved map setting and it wasn't really that much data on the SD card. https://t.co/chN7t3EwYY
