every time i say magic or spiritual, i feel like i have to stop and say ānot hippies.ā thereās something that feels off about them to me. i donāt trust this like i go FUCK NO. whatever this is, no https://t.co/Stqi05p7my

thereās something so white, so beautiful in this particular way, so much talk of social drama while complaining about other people talking about drama, heterosexual plus it feels like a subculture. one i passed through but am not a part of https://t.co/xXdqYjjGpR

reminds me of this lol https://t.co/ybBSbLvtKD

lol š¦ https://t.co/X5pASyB22i

i feel as terrified at the idea of being stuck in a community like this as married to a wife who cares about playing the conventional nyc status money and house and weekend party games stuck in someone elseās game, someone elseās lane, that i have no interest in

saying all this is softening me. if i just exist in these spaces without playing any perceived games at all, theyāre pretty nice actually. just existing and being there without trying to do anything is this š¦ sigma grindset https://t.co/7i3wFBtNZN

turns out people dislike the subculture in question for very different reasons, and i kinda feel protective of it now too https://t.co/M24GT3pCeO

@AskYatharth also, their metaphors are surprisingly good (vibes/etc), they appreciate what they have, maintain a reasonable standard of living, and their aesthetics are pretty good and fun compared to avg overall their values are pretty good, they just are a bit self-absorbed as a subculture

gonna start QTing my favourite responses https://t.co/YA7zlDT0A6

a really sweet account of some of the original hippie vibe š„² https://t.co/TR0yd48uui

@AskYatharth in defense of hippies, they are nowhere near my naughty list they almost exclusively focus on what they want to see more of (excepting some climate activism, I guess?), they keep to themselves, they're peaceful and always very kind to me. they strike me as very nerdy š¤

@AskYatharth big drawbacks to me: I feel like the lifestyle lacks philosophical depth, bias for action, economic vigor, and ambition at some point i'm bored of just enjoying the vibes, and then i'm often (but not always) in the wrong place to build something big

@AskYatharth hahhh same but then it's very mixed up bc i do lump all woo in with this and then i know some people who are woo or hippies and i'm just like?? these people are fucking amazing tho??? not like those *other* hippies ššš it's so weird

@AskYatharth i think this might be why like if you arent down to adopt the norms of a group, v often they'll reject you but then the hippies(?) i like very very much are really welcoming regardless https://t.co/OquBzL4BXR

@goblinodds yeah exactly. itās confusing, innit? https://t.co/7i3wFBtNZN

@RichDecibels yeah rip https://t.co/8x12OuEX7k

@AskYatharth There is a distinction between ex-hippies who love rock music and interested in psychedelics and are now parents (people like @TornadoNate) and modern New Age spiritual ppl. The smart ones don't stay for too long or they integrate it with other things.

@AskYatharth Iāve resisted identifying as spiritual for along time now because even tho the denotation Iād probably accurate, I donāt feel like I identify with the people that identify as spiritual

@AskYatharth Thereās something like⦠ābeing groundedā and āconnecting to your higher self/the universeā that are the new Good (/Bad) in this subculture, so everyone is trying to be, or at least appear to be, those things all the time. Reminds me of Self like parts in IFS

@AskYatharth It's like a tea party for adults. Where are their little hats? https://t.co/cPhJ6qZ1A0
