muscle relaxants that Actually Work is a big untold story in psychedelic-assisted therapy imo https://t.co/leWo0sIVvl

@algekalipso i can't really imagine this kind of thing ever being prescribed as a painkiller even after a long hoped-for psychedelic glasnost; but it's also a very powerful muscle relaxant when combined with therapeutic massage, which may be a more realistic setting

but the neuroplasticity afforded by serotonergic psychedelics also has utility in neuromuscular therapy imo

i've used 2C-B in the past to help recover from both RSI in my wrist and a rotator cuff injury

now, i cannot recommend anybody try this, i did this with some amount of confidence that the issue was purely neuromuscular, but also knowing that if i injured myself further i was prepared to live with the consequences

following recovery from a ganglion cyst, i was unable to move my wrist more than about 20 degrees in either direction without searing pain

it was as if my brain had decided to 'clamp' my wrist joint to a reduced range for protection while healing, and this remained afterwards. this 'clamping' was implemented by firing off massive prediction errors/pain signals if the wrist moved outside a certain bounds

while i was peaking on 2C-B (40mg, ramped up over a couple hours) i was able to move the wrist very slowly through its entire range of motion, feeling the muscles release one by one

like recalibrating a joystick. it felt pretty intense but i just put all my attention on it. when the drugs wore off, the extended range of motion remained

it was pretty damn straightforward. took maybe two hours for the 2C-B to come up and thirty seconds to fix the wrist

(the rotator cuff was fixed by a similar methodology, with less 2C-B but adding some ketamine, by moving my arm in large slow cartwheels and then going swimming in the sea.)

given the @slatestarcodex shoutout yesterday, I'd like to post a thread about how the inverse can also be true: how psychedelics can put anti-annealing, or work hardening into your neuromuscular system https://t.co/pQJ58sJh2o
