so many artifacts from last night I canāt wait to see!! @sonyasupposedly ās collaborative zine, the add on group story, recording of the musical jam @willwjack, the group account @wethepersona, all of the masks š will be posting updates here!

omfg this is amazing š you all are amazing, I am so impressed by the book binding efforts https://t.co/tQwz9Xaai0

gonna overlay that video with the shrek opening song https://t.co/l7nxVFkRvH

This experiment (group twitter account) really took off and I was very pleasantly surprised https://t.co/zbBJU3n4O7

the workshops and cozy spaces were a good time, having someone man the stations really helped https://t.co/Q9dfCZsJnT

People made a ton of interesting masks https://t.co/4WcZZyPq2v

Despite my having put a ton of effort into figuring out the set up of the mask station, people didnāt really take to wearing the masks, let alone performing ?? i thought this would happen naturally but maybe more corralling or intimacy was needed https://t.co/Wo8xJ7VpAz

I had imagined a roomful of people wearing masks and dancing with masks on, but this particular experiment mostly churned out interesting masks and artwork (safe), not performance (not safe? A hypothesis) https://t.co/4tON4dtYnI

People also made a ton of cool artwork https://t.co/r6mV7sbmXV

Group twitter account has been deactivated but it was super interesting: people changed the avatar a few times, talked about their anxieties, made jokes etc. good vibes https://t.co/5UysUfZZ60

The musical jam was awesome, I was in one really good jam (that was recorded!!) where the other keyboardist and I were going back and forth riffing on a little tune, and all the music was gelling and the room felt magical

All the workshops were so well done! @sonyasupposedly manned her zine station and had a steady stream of contributors (canāt wait for this!!), @RhysLindmark had an extremely committed crew of erratic dancers having fun in a different dimension

@lemonaut1 killed it with the scent booth, I heard a number of people talk about how much they liked that. Also the playlist he made was š„, and paired really well with @MarielRosicās live coded visual art show https://t.co/wjmx0T6MLw

The crowd was coolā people dressed up, I myself went from wearing a dress made of tissue paper>a dress made of white athletic tape i drew all over>a nude skirt and lace top for chill vibes in IFS workshop>a holographic e girl fit> vintage green floral jacket and fancy pants

honestly the people were fantastic, I am so grateful for everyone who were open minded & open hearted, who took a chance and allowed me to try out some experimental art/social/psychological things. Some things panned out and some did not, and hopefully itās interesting enough for

people to warrant me continuing to throw these types of events. I will say i was biting off a lot with not just hosting another experimental event on an ambiguous cluster of concepts, but also my first time hosting a big event in a venue

Iām also thinking a lot now about how a space changes the way people interactā I wonder if the masks were in a smaller designated mask room, if that would have encouraged more people to don masks, do a jig, get taken over by mask etc

Also the masks did not have eye holes, which is unfortunate but 1) I could not figure out a way to cut holes into cardboard that scales and 2) I didnāt think it was necessary, you can still check yourself out in the mirror, and 3) drawing the eyes makes them more expressive

last thought for now- a party as a host is very different experience than a party as a guest. I have no idea how the party went for people because I was so involved in the meta level of party management, whether social/vibe repair or logistics or communication etc etc

some more good memoriesā Rhys and I dancing on the platforms with masks on for like twenty minutes, roon gleefully running over the couches and getting the dance floor going, the feeling of a party inflection point where the guests have marinated enough in the same space to

I get the sense that people had good interesting conversationsā people just seemed to want to talk to each other all night long haha, lots of hanging out on couches and in meditation lounge being cozy and vibing to music

The core āexperimentalā aspect of it means that you have to be okay with being vulnerable, with the experiment not Doing The Thing, okay with embracing/overcoming cringe, and generally open minded and enthusiastic about trying something new and exploring together

I think I am the one who cares the most about having a specific vision come true š and so I need to temper my own expectations with however things go. The nature of things like releasing a twitter account to 100+ people or making platforms for performing with masks is that

Figuring out the key components for success 1. A musical jam 2. An intimate setting / trust container 3. Human guidance (signs only donāt work) 4. Have plenty of on ramps to guide people into a curious and creative mindset (easy interesting action eg sample scents or food)

What I want to happen with these parties: 1. people to have a good time 2. introduce people to a new experience 3. shift peoples perspectives through curiosity and play 4. strengthen community 5. explore a concept or create a live image as it appears in my mind

For example with this party I drove two hours to buy the perfect pallets because all the free local ones were not cutting it (wanted covered top & clean look). I checked out a whole bunch of places, spent an afternoon wandering lumber yards https://t.co/AwrONzq0n8

Then we had to stabilize it, and sand it down, and make it safe to dance and jump on. @br___ian was a huge help here šš„° https://t.co/tiNtIDTZX2

For the masks, I tried out various materials: paper plates, aluminum foil, paper bags, and cardboard. Paper bags in retrospect might have been better but I wasnāt that into the aesthetic (too horror/cult ish) https://t.co/xmQUOMqjBC

Other random process pics https://t.co/jwAlSts9t8

Then I tested the performance process on a few friends and they loved it; but again this was smaller space, felt like designated mask performance area, was in my house, etc https://t.co/wcFSS4hSsD

The social side, while stressful, makes it feel consequential. There is a definitive *moment* or *night of the party* where it either happens, or it doesnāt. Also making things for your friends is so fun, one of my favorite ways to create.

@christineist Totally agree, there was a noping-out of for example the erratic dance workshop, which had an exodus once the vibes started getting more vulnerable/requiring greater 'buy-in'. But @RhysLindmark did a fantastic amazing job regardless

@christineist so enjoyed reading this thread! loved the reflections, and now desperately wanting someone to do a rich b. style debrief with you on this, and with these other parties / gatherings that seem to be popping up
