this is the thing that i'm always obsessed about figuring out. always seek out the intermediate dominos. any time you see any sort of big success, it's always illuminating to ask: what, precisely, led to this? there are almost always intermediate steps https://t.co/EBJYZsnG6x

was just looking up joe rogan's history recently. fear factor was a nice big break for him. how did he get that? well, first he did a bunch of standup comedy, which helped him get some tv experience. ever heard of this tv show? he also hung around ufc so much they gave him a mic https://t.co/y7T4pJH7Pn

always work backwards from what you want, and ask the question, how can I make myself an extremely easy candidate to say yes to? what prerequisites would you look for if you were going to hire someone for your dream role? then how do you get those prereqs?

alan watts used to do volunteer radio. zizek used to write a magazine column. christopher nolan used to do corporate videos. if you closely examine anybody's trajectory you'll see where they put in the hours, what career capital they built, what social graphs they plugged into

once you get good at sussing out intermediate dominos, you can do things that most people think is impossible. a lot of "impossible" things are just like, things with 4 steps. soooo many people told me "it's impossible to make a living as a writer in singapore"

them: nobody can do what you're suggesting me: well what if they first do A, B, C, D them: nobody does all of that me: ah you're not actually... you don't actually care about what is possible, you're just giving me your 1-sigma heuristics them: nobody says 1-sigma heuristics
