This is really common among medical fields. It's all find and dandy to make jokes about eating poop until you want convince someone it might be a good idea. Then you start using terms like FMT and commensal bacteria so they don't put you in an asylum because of the aesthetic.

Dig at this ritualized medicalized jargon long enough and it starts to horse-shoe around to the other side and the aesthetic starts to be a parody of itself. There is a very narrow overton-window of acceptable discourse, and this ain't it.https://t.co/sDtSiNregv

Sorry mam, but your child reeks of sonic hedgehog. We also found a fox 'n sox mutations. Someone seemed to have put him in a t-box for a while. Now their brain is rotting. Tho we might be able to prevent his heart from failing by investigating his Pikachurin.

I just realized that lead poisoning might be contributing to impaired pikachurin pathways by replacing calcium ions in vivo.https://t.co/JoH5DV085x

"Dystroglycan has different domains that allow multiple Ca2+ sites to form a stable pikachurin-dystroglycan connection. [...] and suggests the possibility of clustering effects can be important in modulating pikachurin-dystroglycan interactions."https://t.co/JPLEkwnXuo

"The results of this study suggested that increased psychopathy scores in this cohort may be attributable to the neuroanatomical abnormalities observed and that childhood lead exposure may be influential to these outcomes."https://t.co/gWgGI6mfMdhttps://t.co/OFoRJVp6CK

Looks like one of these is an electro-ejaculator. "all Orifical Electrodes must be lubricated before insertion."wew lad. That's an ominous warning.https://t.co/PhZbgnMz5z https://t.co/Ht4kQ2U8MJ

Oh wow, they also advertised a tool that suggests breathing in ozone directly.https://t.co/amlJqAbv7KThat seems... like a bad idea. https://t.co/DnWvEGaDgp

Imagine trying to write aesthetically pleasing content on twitterdotcom with this stuff showing up in the "What's happening" side bar.I hope Markipiler is ok. https://t.co/T6BNlW70Il

Ooh good, Thanks @unclequeef. I'm glad to know #HEFARTED (This isn't sarcasm; but it is an aesthetic) https://t.co/djLneD5a2V

The problem with aesthetics is largely a problem of branding and marketing AFAICT.https://t.co/PcjXmiPGTm

How does one make "eating poop" palatable to the westerner's sensibilities?Put it in a pill and have a trusted medical authority bless it. This magic spell doesn't work if you don't have someone wearing a lab coat with 8 years of medical training tho.

The ritual of graduation is how you know someone is a real doctor, and not a witch.https://t.co/J706D1H3l6

Doctors wear lab coats because they are emulating Halloween with stickers and candy. They dress up in lab coats that scientists use, to differentiate what they were doing from practitioners of osteopathy and homeopathy, and then give out candy and stickers to children.

Veritassium made a video talking about the prevalence of lead poisoning. Shows in the video that crime correlates well with lead in infancy on a 20 year delay. https://t.co/F1pYVqdSpTCould this be why we see psychopaths seem to have lead poisoning?https://t.co/xCPZ32bax4 https://t.co/fq41I8dre4

Did you know that Lead can replace Calcium. Probably pretty bad if your sensory neurons / c-tactile fibers are layered with Calcium-gated ion channels.https://t.co/ui1yL2eIbD

Most of my 'high IQ' genes are genes that impact longevity... largely b/c it's about more efficient calcium synthesis. Leads to stronger bones => less fractures in old age. It's dumbfounding how often Calcium and Cholesterol Synthesis show up in research.https://t.co/Q7J7KIhrwI

Speaking of weird aesthetics, did you know anything about TRP receptors?https://t.co/YqLKeppjZ0

"First, as Ca2+-permeable channels that respond to a variety of stimuli, TRP channels can directly initiate cellular Ca2+ signals."https://t.co/NoECuB0Yw6

"Not surprisingly, these channels have been linked to many pathological conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, chronic fatigue syndrome and myalgic encephalomyelitis, atherosclerosis, hypertension and atopy." https://t.co/irN7fxKBUd

"indicate that [human neural progenitor cells] derived from fetal midbrain tissue acquire essential voltage-gated sodium and calcium channel properties during neuronal maturation in vitro. [...] TRP channels in neurogenesis which may be important..."https://t.co/STZtGvTeql

Why does lead poisoning demyelinate the brain? Can we fix it?And what does gut bacteria's role in metallothinoneins mean that they can help chelate the lead out or help replace it with calcium? https://t.co/I2aZ7AOTwo

@Grimhood Gut bacteria might promote Metallothioneins"Besides the "barrier" function of the luminal microbiota, this may involve specific host-genes such as metallothioneins, which are differentially expressed in the gastrointestinal tract of each group of mice." https://t.co/2I00hbhw9o

Does your model of autism explain lead poisoning's role in brain development? Don't talk to me about misplaced aesthetics dad. https://t.co/hFKQjlCl8P

@goblinodds I want to stick hotsauce up my butt for science. I can experience extreme suffering and try to figure out why TRPV1 receptors (a major pain pathway) seem to cause so many interconnected immune and metabolic responses in our body. https://t.co/U70jgk0CGx

"Further, information from developmental and epigenetic research may suggest complex, multidimensional trajectories for individuals experiencing psychopathy. Based on these observations, the authors make several recommendations for future research" [2019]https://t.co/9q68B3PqK9

Hot take: Psychopathy is just what we call it when an autistic person is in prison and doesn't look the normie psychologist in the eyes or respond to emotions due to gut driven Alexithymia. https://t.co/yiSjThSE3L

@MMMalign @goblinodds "These preliminary results are discussed in terms of implications for future research on the possible comorbidity of autism and psychopathy traits, and how these two historically separate research literatures may benefit from collaboration"https://t.co/u5OR48kA7T

Alexthymia is so weird.https://t.co/nI9PSVmoEL

my TAS-20 score went down since this: https://t.co/p91ckulY3r

Alexithymia way more common than realizedhttps://t.co/XiKpDyE042

I suspect that the correlations we see in autism are actually gut dysbiosis. But it could actually go the other way and suggests that psychopathy is just a socially mediated diagnostic label biased by circumstance.https://t.co/aP6UzcNcRu

s/psychopaths/autistics/https://t.co/Oy68RYnJuz

Do you ever wonder if treatment resistant schizophrenia is actually autism?Or what if the reason why the meds weren't working was because this is all mediated thru gut microbiota metabolism factors and this assumption is wrong? https://t.co/6fOkkY1Pij https://t.co/pBHVGpPhSY

"mice with the predisposition, consumption of small amounts of lead caused anxiety, hyperactivity, and the enlargement of certain parts of the brain, such as the lateral ventricles [...] same as what is seen in human subjects diagnosed with schizophrenia." https://t.co/lysUqc8JlE

Whoops, all assumptions."first generation antipsychotics did not appear until the 1950s, an important consideration given that antipsychotics are often cited as the culprit behind GI pathologies in schizophrenia, as described in a later section."https://t.co/kwHTyUKqWG https://t.co/uPC2h14xOy

Galen, you say?Bacterial dysbiosis in my anus driving insanity? https://t.co/ltRZtPsUsD

Metchnikoff? He told me to drink sour milk.https://t.co/ciEFxucixK

Learn about the theories of Élie Metchnikoff, Nobel Prize Winner who worked along side Louis Pasteur, in this great talk by @ruairirobertson https://t.co/56tANAJZVmHis ideas are effectively an early version of gut dysbiosis of the a in the 1900s. https://t.co/Lqx3WSLT7I https://t.co/tOPVJ5snTS

Kefir again.https://t.co/qbCLkK9Jrk

"This review builds upon the foundation of Nobel Prize winner Élie Metchnikoff’s research on immunology. Metchnikoff is revered for first discovering the connection between immunity and probiotic fermented milk products, such as kefir, over 100 years ago." https://t.co/cHdinqljUC

Ever use AI to spot psychopaths? https://t.co/fjYFUQU4QH

"Machiavellianism (but not psychopathy) was associated with favorable views about mind upload, both directly and indirectly through utilitarian moral attitudes. These results therefore substantiate the concerns voiced by AI safety researchers" https://t.co/ITgpYmdL0m

Psychopaths apparently use the past tense when talking about things that happened in the past, and responded to questioning about why they did it with response that indicate a causal-inference model. What do non-psychopaths say in response to that?https://t.co/RJ1zJlgBrR

"What’s more, our work demonstrates that we urgently need tools to help individuals who have both autism and alexithymia understand their own and other people’s emotions." https://t.co/nDKfsPQTOg

Cool, that also correlates with autism severity."Um rate was associated with autism symptom severity, but not executive function or language abilities, suggesting that um serves a pragmatic, listener-oriented function." https://t.co/DZTdBQu0Jv

Its funny how often the "Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale (LSRPS)" ends up finding weird correlations with autism.like this study that says psychopaths don't have contagious yawning.https://t.co/hXVjymnaksIs that right?https://t.co/Ca1exkw0J9

College aged men who score high on a self-report scale for psychopathy tend to also be better able to mask emotions when asked to fake them.https://t.co/B0RfMJ6LoYI'm sure this isn't an artifact of the questionnaire not considering high functioning autistic traits at all. /s

If you're in jail and exhibit autistic or schizophrenic traits, you get called psychopath. Sure wish there was some easy to glean structural explanation for this.https://t.co/60oOWlmIHb https://t.co/FZxRfTWqqg

🤔"rates of IBD have also been rising in other parts of the world over the past 50 years. They suggest that increased urbanization could be a reason, perhaps due to its influence on the composition of microbes in the gut"https://t.co/5T3kydbEUbhttps://t.co/H9oq0LpW82

This study detailing IBS epidemiology cites a bunch of things on rural/urban divides, but neglects to actually mention the difference in levels, only using the highest rated (urban) figures in it's framing. This is a hidden bias.https://t.co/Zcf8ajWdm2

1973 study on lead levels"mean blood lead level of the rural group was markedly lower than that of the urban group [...] Nine percent of the rural children had laboratory evidence of "undue lead absorption" [...] compared to 23% of the urban children." https://t.co/hPQZjQppNT https://t.co/musZz4tALy

2017 study using spatial data in Iowa showed a different story. Localized lead levels seem to vary significantly and small sample sizes won't really elucidate what is happening here.https://t.co/esJ87Fz4ig https://t.co/GXcDXUzLrJ

But... per this paper, we might expect lead to be partly beneficial in some people. if it is acting as a low level antibiotic or helping reinforce some other homeostatic system, actual symptoms presentation might vary. https://t.co/YHwjDJYjsZ

"Additional epidemiological and toxicological studies are needed to determine the integrated role of the environmental exposome in gut ecotoxicology and thus identify risk factors, key regulators and novel therapeutic approaches in IBD [...]" https://t.co/xWt0Iu14iT

Better bile function & gut health = better calcium absorption. Which would lower the odds of lead replacing as much just thru statistical factors. https://t.co/nNPJiIaDmA

And better gut health also likely has improved lead chelation. So the effect would be amplified. Many commensal bacteria might be doing this, like Lactobacillus rhamnosus discussed here: https://t.co/WL11JGgtNb

Now strains are a bit different genetically, so impacts of one might not show up in another. But that L. rhamnosus one shows up in IBD & autism studies quit a lot. What is it doing & why do we see formulations like Visbiome and Vivomixx impacting TAS-20? https://t.co/MWyhUMfeeQ https://t.co/9cas9JrLvP

Lactobacillus GG? Is that the same as Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG?What are you doing in there, little buddy?https://t.co/4ZJJjyfUnw

Thinking a lot about how tomatoes used to poison people... And how fear of them as poisonous was justified!Because the acidity of the tomato would make the lead leach from their pewter dishes. https://t.co/24PQnvxL1k

Do you ever wonder how the pH of your tapwater shifts over time and what it might do if the solder joints on your old copper pipes end up becoming exposed? I do.https://t.co/ZhzvQIR9oC

I think about this a lot actually. If you read up on the kinds of things that impact pH, you'll note it mentions mine waste.https://t.co/BX4MPWR9x8https://t.co/EUfrTrw8gP

@DanielleFong @poppy_haze @elonmusk I grew up swimming in wash water of a superfund site. so the idea of pulling mining pollution out of the soil and water is something I've been thinkin about since I was 11 https://t.co/RMGaCwf2btSelf-funding clean up turns this into an economic forcing function.

Its really fascinating how much simple things like lead solder can be impacted by water pH.https://t.co/aMU9ItlnLc

That was the first year my mom was in a wheelchair. Apparently she had tried to kill her self shortly before and was in a mental institution for a month or two. She probably had M.S. symptoms but didn't realize it.I learned later that school had lead in the water supply.

Sure is funny how much I can infer about the cytokine profile of people with MS by looking at crohn's disease."In conclusion, based on our results, [blood lead level] was higher in MS patients, compared with healthy individuals."https://t.co/p2jB2yrnq8

Tired: vaccines cause autismWired: antibiotics cause autism.Inspired: actually what matters is if the delicate balance of the gut ecosystem can recover after the immune system is perturbed, and in some cases antibiotics help prevent autism while sometimes causing it.

The idea that it's picky eating driving gut dysbiosis is slowly being eroded, but adherents still insist it's weird autistic eating behaviors.I got your weird eating behaviors right here.https://t.co/SCEit9WWzD

Picky eating in autistics is what drives gut dysbiosis?Same must be true of Anorexia nervosa. I'm sure it's not a complex regulatory effect driven by gut shifts and impacts on GLP-1 signaling or anything. https://t.co/LRpgp4wNC6

Please get help if you suffer from some kind of disordered eating.https://t.co/srXVHArcV1

If binging and purging make you feel better, please consider eating fermented foods shown to impact anorexia."Possible use of fermented foods in rehabilitation of anorexia nervosa: the gut microbiota as a modulator"https://t.co/WHx6M7Ebwmhttps://t.co/hj5Em7dTBA

Rapid weight loss observed in rats can cause excessive lead and iron due to it not being removed at the same time. This increasing concentration means chelating both while losing weight may be quite important to avoid poor outcomes. https://t.co/7U3BGMHgT5 https://t.co/CrxOlDuA4L

Time to learn about supply chain of girl scout cookies. I think it's interesting that the chocolate coated chocolate cookie (thin mints) had some of the highest amounts of heavy metals."How Girl Scout Cookies Are Made" [2018]https://t.co/9Dl19cjSbLhttps://t.co/SfFfIi9wQs https://t.co/zN5h08Pxck

That video clip is from the mark of the latest Joe Rogan interview (#2277) with Woody Harrelson. Interesting and more comprehensive health discussion starts at 2h10m15s mark.https://t.co/TfF6z7jacV

The Girl Scout thing starts roughly at the 2h23m27s mark and continues on for a while. Starts out talking about glyphosate. https://t.co/Gw8KznEFBH

It would appear there are some major limitations of the study and could be blown out of proportion? Damn. I really wanted to find a reliable source of heavy metals to experiment with.https://t.co/B9DN9LpDpb

That snopes article suggest that we need more research. 25 samples isn't a whole lot. What would it take for someone to do this at a much larger scale? It says the reason they were so few was because of cost. Can we make it cheaper?https://t.co/9nNb2YjsnR

Maybe @natfriedman would be interested in testing Gilr Scout Cookies for pesticides and heavy metals, and sources of phthalates and other plastic contaminates? That would be fun.Sounds like an opportunity to crowd source funds too. https://t.co/wIsJD9Xwp9

We did it! We tested 300 Bay Area foods for plastic chemicals. We found some interesting surprises. Top 5 findings in our test results: 1. Our tests found plastic chemicals in 86% of all foods, with phthalates in 73% of the tested products and bisphenols in 22%. It's everywhere. 2. We detected phthalates in most baby foods and prenatal vitamins. 3. Hot foods which spend 45 minutes in takeout containers have 34% higher levels of plastic chemicals than the same dishes tested directly from the restaurant. 4. The 1950s Army rations we tested contained surprisingly high levels of plastic chemicals. 5. Almost every single one of the foods we tested are within both US FDA and EU EFSA regulations. Check out our full results below.

How would you know if YOUR food is contaminated? It seems tragic that we can't depend on proper testing because this stuff cost so much.https://t.co/X00PAA1gi8

Tea is full of lead sure, but unintuitively it doesn't leach in the water? It can actually sucks more lead out of the water when you brew it? Wild. and testable."can remove about 15 percent of lead from drinking water"https://t.co/UHqi2kXSPK

Sure makes one wonder. Does chocolate with high amounts of lead actually get more lead into your system, or do the polyphenols extract it from the system? What if we are doing it wrong?https://t.co/aYVZyIphxH

Sure, you can measure how much lead is in chocolate. But does that mean your body absorbs it when its in the gut? These dynamics matter. That something has lot of of lead in it may mean that it is *good* at absorbing and binding lead. You have to test it in situo!

In other news, finely powdered tea acts like activated charcoal and absorbs toxins... You could infer this by just studying the ancient healing texts, but you're not ready to understand them.https://t.co/hGZoPOTVR3
