I’m gonna restate this for clarity, cuz I was gonna post about it anyways after this convo: It seems to me that there’s a ladder of vulnerability, running from what it’s least vulnerable to talk/share about, up to what feels almost illegal to share: https://t.co/2oDjverjBl

@the_wilderless mentioned the other day that from least to most vulnerable to share, for him: thoughts, bodily sensations, feelings, wants / desires / imaginings which resonates for me and i've been reflecting on it

For me, it goes approximately: -mind (thoughts) -body (sensations, happenings) -heart (feelings) -soul (desire, purpose)

It’s real easy for me to share my thoughts with people. As evidenced by… the existence of my Twitter account, and most conversations I’ve had since learning to speak

It’s slightly more difficult to share about my body, especially if it’s something going awry. Fairly easy to say “my arm hurts” less easy to say “I have diarrhea” or “I feel fat and gross today” (body and heart are tied together a lot, so the order gets muddy here in the middle)

Emotions are tough. That’s what a lot of people around this part of Twitter have found out, the thing that brought a lot of us here. Getting a handle on emotions and ways of expressing them is HARD. I won’t labor that point too much.

But even more so than emotions, it seems like soul, purpose, desire can be even harder to *recognize* or *allow* in ourselves, let alone express to others.

Which is a shame, cuz soul is the thing that lights up everything else. All the things you do to sort out your body, your mind, your feelings, They don’t make sense without soul. They’re just a bland checklist without desire driving them. https://t.co/H931Uj9CRt

And Soul is the thing that turns all that Body, Heart, and Mind work into more than a checklist to cross off. Soul—the imaginal—is the connective tissue that lets everything else communicate and bind together into something with drive, purpose, oomph, Eros. Something *alive*

@QiaochuYuan brought up a really great parallel point: this same ladder is about the same order of difficulty for disembedding or or disidentifying w something

Fairly easy to recognize your thoughts aren’t you. A little more challenging to see your body as not-you. Even harder to stand aside from your emotions. Hardest of all to stand aside from your soul, your desire, your passion, and go “I am not that.”

That’s why this quote hit me so hard when I read it a few years ago. “The soul with which you were furnished.” The disembedding from even the soul there. Recognizing it as a part of you, a vital part, but not the core of you, Unthinkable, a lot of the time. https://t.co/Gfe6Cky5TF

Just as you might be born with a bad liver, or a cruel father, you might struggle against the climate of your country or the soul with which you were furnished. —adapted from Ortega Y Gasset
