if streaming services function as an acceptable substitute for the unacceptable contents of one's own imagination, perhaps twitter similarly functions as an acceptable substitute for the unacceptable contents of one's own thoughts

i was looking at the wiki page of some famous author or other and the story of their life involved being inspired by a *single* book they read and were utterly consumed by and i wonder if we've made it too difficult to be consumed by a single work of art in this way

hmm now might be a good time to finally read Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television https://t.co/uOCktI16Hw https://t.co/VofOdp0PWu

@QiaochuYuan we should, like, get AI that hijacks our webcam, notices when our attention is collapsed, and dials down the saturation of our screens correspondingly the user experience must be degraded until the user's experience improves

commentary on "why not social media / twitter" https://t.co/ckL3aAKZxY

several people have asked why not include social media - i do think it's important to include social media in a general "dopamine detox" and i do notice a dazing effect from spending too long on twitter that i don't like. this is more of a "video detox" https://t.co/sV9FjQwDvx

@QiaochuYuan oh yeah. I like to rewatch my favourite films 12 times so I can love them enough. on that note, I reread The Diamond Age six months after first reading it. now I'm reminded of @startuployalist 's delightful adoration for that novel; if anyone's consumed by a single book, she is.

credit for this btw goes to nathaniel solace, you can find his insta below. i was pulled into his men’s group by @OperationMoksha and there’s some powerful shit there 🙏 https://t.co/Uf4sQqNcmx
