Today we interviewed someone who is hyperthymic. He's probably 4sd above the happiness mean. He said that he never feels insulted. He just finds things funny. He recommends not being in a social environment where you get rewarded for sharing your bad mood, as it reinforces it.

@algekalipso What sort of thing is 'rewarding' sharing your bad mood? When I share my bad mood with friends/social media, sometimes people comfort me, which is 'rewarding' in a way. But I think if ppl didn't do that or were mean, I'd just feel worse and I wouldn't stop having bad moods.

@algekalipso I relate so much about last comment. I witnessed that a lot at uni:Complaining is cathartic, but when it becomes default it degenerates fast into the only frame of cynicism through which all things are considered. Enthusiasm progressively less rewarded (bc sounds like bragging)

@algekalipso I'm not convinced that being hyperthermic necessarily means you're well placed to give others advice on how to get there. Some might be, but some may just be naturally predisposed to a happier baseline. Same way being thin doesn't necessarily mean you'd give good diet advice.

@algekalipso One thing I’ve realized while in the pits of psychedelic induced hell is that lots of people are super happy and don’t even realize it. In this hell, doing ANYTHING is basically impossible. Someone who feels depressed and goes to therapy is still a million times better off.
