@rosaclewis i think i’m asking more, “what if it depends on no one . . . then is it just uncalibrated?” but maybe you’re saying, “it’s totally fine (and healthy!) to use other people’s judgment as part of your system” “and i get to choose who they are”

more about understanding as actions—the only thing that is real, in a way: perceptions are just static hallucinations of how things would be if we acted https://t.co/CJnmEHxDUp

@AskYatharth self-respect is not bad; deceit is bad. so the question to ask is how do you know you’re not deceiving yourself. which brings us to actions

It’s also pretty useful to work backwards. Imagine it’s your 90th birthday. Who do you want around you? What do they see in you? What would you be proud to have done? How would you be proud to have lived? What can you do now to live up to that?

I respect people who persist. I respect people who are patient and kind when they don’t have to be. I respect people who listen. I respect people who aren’t easily swayed by prestige and accolades. So I sought out such people, spent more time in their mentions, and it rubbed off

@fstflofscholars I might abstract it to be like “what if bad” and I’m like “yes”

@AskYatharth If you’re confused about respecting the entirety of yourself, you can start by asking yourself what you respect in others, and then strive to act in ways that match that. then you can respect your actions for starters. “I conduct myself in a manner that I would respect in others”
