I think the trait I most look out for in people is the ability to model people other than themselves Eg I personally hate calendars, routine, structure, etc but it’s not hard for me to imagine that someone might love it, thrive on it, the same way I love what I love

as a result I struggle to remember the last time I’ve been surprised by someone being different than me. Being 3sd deviant/outlier does make it easier to imagine other kinds of deviants. Even being left-handed helps, I think

Just asked wife “can you think of a time where I said ‘oh my god this person is so weird I don’t believe it” or ‘can you believe this person?’”. and she burst out laughing and said no. And she has an encyclopaedic memory of our past conversations

I posted about having $1000 in savings at 16 (actually 17, got the year wrong) and multiple people thought this meant my parents were rich they were not; I made the money myself, organising concerts. it’s not that hard. idk man. just read and think and talk to loads of people https://t.co/WdUth2fTRO

anyway! our first gig was a great success! we booked a small-ish venue, called several other mid-tier bands that we liked and admired, charged a fair price, publicized it. I believe about 100 people turned up. I think I pocketed like $300 for it, which was amazing to 17yo Visa https://t.co/Vbh0T9V9c2

you don’t need startup capital for this sort of little thing if you’re willing to take the time to talk to people until you find people who’re willing to let you use their venue for free, or let you pay them afterwards, or will give you $ in preorders, etc

the big lesson of survivor bias is that you should optimize for being a survivor
