people say things like ^ kinda smugly. like “those people” who are willing to grind are dumb or don’t have initiative like “you” that’s not true, they can have a ton of initiative, do lots of side projects, start clubs, etc. be remarkably competent in every way

“willingness to grind in a system” doesn’t always mean “no initiative or agency” it just means whatever initiative or agency they have is funnelled into the incentive structures provided by existing systems https://t.co/PVSTVYDMHs

they’re exceptional at catching the jetstreams of systems up not so good or bold at building their own systems https://t.co/kqTGDwVM56

easy mode is coasting on the system with excellence it might be hard work, but in a way, the system streamlines the path for you. like catching a jet stream hard mode is making the system work for you it's paddling & creating value systems that don’t necessarily exist

they might not have a sense or a value system beyond “doing well in the system” you kinda need. you need to value freedom, or vision, or something else, at least as first, to optimise for anything but just “what the system rewards” https://t.co/fM3B335ZMD

it’s easier almost when you’re not an excellent kid, because excellence at system can make optimising for the system so easy it becomes all you know if you’re not so good at the system, you find other ways to value yourself: popularity, geeky hobbies, beauty
