it didn’t make sense to me either why i went to south africa but it didn't matter. it stood out to me as a little spark for the next step and taking it led me to a world of randomness

i told them there are two kinds of students who wanted to take gap years. those who already really know what they want to do. and those who don’t know what they’re looking for if they were talking to me, they were probably the latter

and if you're the second kind, you by definition can't plan out the year, because you don't yet know what you'll want "anything you can plan you won't want"
