rhymes with "decisions are made by whoever shows up". and not a lot of people are all that serious about showing up repeatedly for an extended period of time. look at anything. gym attendance, whatever. most people quit most things. almost everyone's intuitions are miscalibrated

sometimes the person in 2nd or 3rd place ends up winning because 1st crashes and burns, or gets injured, or quits, something. sometimes all the cars in front of you pile up and you escape unscathed. you never know. always be prepared for victory

trying to be clever about outmaneuvering an opponent in the short-term can seem sexy and cool and badass, but how you actually win most of the time is just pure survival. it's pretty mundane. the championship title is likely decided more in training than on the court

a lot of winning boils down to "don't lose", this sounds really trivial and smart-assy, but it's amazing how many people don't optimize for not-losing. show up, don't die, don't quit idk i keep seeing people just not seem to get it

@visakanv Even in Sun Tzu's time this was a lesson from "the good fighters of old" > "The good fighters of old first put themselves beyond the possibility of defeat, and then waited for an opportunity of defeating the enemy."

@visakanv i just realised this is the ergodicity thing Luca talks about https://t.co/ZMAFf2FIYB

@visakanv be in any place >> everyone in front of you crashes >> gold medal https://t.co/IZMCtXbRns
