this set up a terrible conflict within myself. while I was conscientiously trying to beat myself up to become a better person, there was another part of me that was utterly convinced that things would *never* get better, so "fun visa" would hide in the shadows, like a guerilla

there’s a @nickcammarata tweet that went “you don’t have to do anything in your lives. ever. you can just be happy” the idea is maybe you’ll want to move past that at some point, but you can’t move past an idea that fundamentally terrifies you

when people get stuck in one rung or the other, due to trauma, they can spend their life there, not being able to perceive where their problems are coming from gifted kids ~= stuck in upper rung, everything must be understood in terms of public signifiance
