i used to wonder if it was selfish to have a baby if there were already children waiting to be adopted in the world

i don’t ask that question anymore. i don’t like the way “selfishness” attempts to reach into your life and take away from you things you want to do instead, i applaud being moved. i applaud being moved enough to give birth to life, and to take care of a human for 10, 20 years

i applaud being moved enough by the state of a child in the world to want to give it a home, and give it love.

for no reason lesser than it came out of your womb, and also no reason greater meaning doesn’t work like that https://t.co/gG0HsY8rRh

there is no saying that adopting a child is more important than birthing one. it doesn’t work that way for one, birthing is beautiful. have you ever run up against the beauty of birth? it has a world of meaning that can drown you

for another, adopting too can be moving. it can be moving to participate in the world-at-larger. to include in your awareness beings that already exist, and use your resources to create meaningful, participatory action in your lives meaning is fractal

in the end, there are just our bodies, and what moves them we decide, to some degree, how we want to be moved that motive force can be some intellectual consideration of whether “birthing a child is okay” it can be just being moved

there’s a @nickcammarata tweet that went “you don’t have to do anything in your lives. ever. you can just be happy” the idea is maybe you’ll want to move past that at some point, but you can’t move past an idea that fundamentally terrifies you

if you are moved to adopt, it is because you were moved to the adoptions cause the two ways of moving someone else to adopt is to suggest an intellectual idea in their head, or to show them by show them, i don’t mean physically show them. i mean show them, revelatorily

obligation is but one instrument of control. one i have been loudly and previously suspicious of. i haven’t seen obligation protect things important to me yet. i’ve seen it destroy things important to me. im young. i made my camp autonomy

there are those who protect the existing fortresses of society with obligation. they have something to protect too
