you can zoom down from “humanity-saving quests” into just the pain of your community and find a ~world of meaning~ there https://t.co/d1lQdwL8SL

there is a world of undeniable meaning to be found in the fact that other people are in pain, or can be made delightful it’s easy to rationalise it away but confronted with it it becomes apparent and obvious

the kind of world that it is, it’s made of the /same stuff/, you see, as the bigger one it’s self-similar that way, fractal you can’t compare it and say it’s somehow less meaningful

it’s the same way that “exploring the whole world” can have as much depth or perhaps even less than exploring just a village when you stay within just a village, the micro-worlds hidden within the larger world open up to you https://t.co/jL1wx45PAo

when you get close enough to the actual thing — and i mean get close, not just think about it, but have the actual worlds of interpersonal meaning or private meaning open up to you — your POV changes your thumb becomes bigger than the moon https://t.co/MTEc629wrY

the moon, it’s still bigger, and the moon can still accomodate more inhabitants overall but if you can never see the richness of your thumb, the living biological thing it is, and the immense complexity and richness of its structure, you have not grasped the world
