You don’t own “web3.” The VCs and their LPs do. It will never escape their incentives. It’s ultimately a centralized entity with a different label. Know what you’re getting into…

@jack I respect you & everything you’ve built. I also disagree here. Twitter started as a protocol, the free speech wing of the free speech party. Then corporate & political incentives led to deplatforming & censorship. Web3 offers the possibility, not guarantee, of something better. https://t.co/NyglFOjrP6

@balajis All false. Twitter started as a corporation. It's had corporate incentives from day 1. It's trying to offset those, and it will, through @bluesky. "web3" has the same corporate incentives, but hides it under "decentralization." It's literally a different cap table structure.

@jack @bluesky Here’s the article I’m referencing, by @paulg in 2009. Twitter wasn’t *literally* a protocol, but the free and open API made people use it like one, and forget it was a company. But then, the terms were changed on developers due to the need to monetize. https://t.co/bYBzHnZWIT https://t.co/ybgeLI0TSb

@jack @balajis @bluesky My expectation that @bluesky will actually ship dropped to zero once you resigned. Without a founder there to push past the innovators dilemma, is there any reason we should still expect this to really happen?

@jack @balajis @bluesky is @bluesky yet an independent org that would continue even if Twitter Inc management shifts its quarterly goals? how much funding has been irrevocably committed to @bluesky? does @bluesky have any contractual rights to Twitter data which would save it from future API rugpulls?

@jack @balajis @bluesky I also respect you and what you’ve built. But it’s a cop-out to blame censorship on corporate incentives. You were CEO when the policy was changed. All you had to say was ‘no’.
