while reading Alan Watts and thinking about my own stuff, it suddenly occurred in me that once you learn to delight in your mistakes – to find the pleasure in being wrong – you will experience incredible, abundant joy far greater than anything typically advertised as possible

this is the joy of artists, scientists, authors, musicians, seekers and it also explains why the best of them are able to DO SO MUCH. because they love fucking up! getting things wrong is pleasurable! maybe not literally in the moment, but they have a process that transmutes it

if this stuff sounds like a weird word game, watch this – with each passing day i realize that this video changed something in me very deeply, very fundamentally. it taught me with my 👂 and 👁 and 🫀 that “mistakes” are contextual, and that artists turn “mistakes” into music https://t.co/TiWqCkpUpk

Now here he is demonstrating what it's like to play the chromatic scale, *musically*, over music. Just witnessing this blew my mind. It's like someone reciting the alphabet in a moving, poetic way. Harder than that, since some notes are "wrong". Wooten doesn't believe in "wrong" https://t.co/gxAoUEgbYW

how much of the pain of a “mistake” is actually the socialized learned flinch response to it, the assumptions about what happens, what should happen, when a misstep is made? most of it, I think. maybe almost all of it. artists turn mistakes into music https://t.co/HdzlYFNrip

feeling emotional about everything I haven’t done for myself, how I’m overstretched, underrested, tense, etc the challenge is to not be mean to myself about it and be like “ah, splendid, much opportunity there is here then!”

and yea sometimes something is just straight up fucked, like I did a deadlift wrong last year and hurt my back, no joy in that, but it did get me to start stretching and now I’m recovered (I think) and more limber than I was for years before that. So who knows, really? We’ll see! https://t.co/KhIFFyK9v6
