an informal sort of thing i've been doing all this while subconsciously is what I might call "longevity studies", which is to study what endures and what doesn't, primarily in media. it blows my mind actually that people aren't obsessed with this all the time

some things endure and some things don't, and the variance can be huge – some things are flashes in the pan that are forgotten within days, weeks, months, whereas other things are remembered for decades. to switch tracks, lets talk about say, Very Online People

some people are Very Online for 1-2 years, etc, but then they mysteriously vanish, deactivate, disappear some of us have been here 20 years and will be here until we die being able to identify the other long game players allows for the weaving of magnificent decade-long threads

i must have ~100 threads abt long games by now but i still don't know if i've ever properly articulated what I can see that is so insane that nobody else seems to realize. you can sort of... you can trap psychic megafauna by running ropes around their legs. you can shape history

@visakanv The trick is: the real message is not in any one of those threads, it's in the underlying Way that got you to write about long games so much The long game can only be properly articulated in with a long-form medium
